The Workshop, Barton Bendish

Simple yet functional in design, this project strips back an old building, which was being used for storage, into a contemporary rural office. The most noticeable features of the design are the new metal fins, which shield the large glazing screens within the existing structural openings from overheating in the hot Summer sun. Rather than specifying basic standard louvres or brise-soleil, these fins provided the opportunity to connect back to the building’s past use as a workshop, and are designed to be unique, crafted, functional, elegant and sculptural, and to demonstrate the skill and pride of the metalworker.

Construction is under way with samples agreed for the aluminium fins.
