The site was previously subject to 7 planning applications and appeals, before I took on this project. Having stepped back and reviewed the site in its wider context, I developed a more sympathetic and appropriate design, balancing local concerns and traditional attitudes against modern technical requirements and the clients’ aspirations. This approach was validated by securing planning approval with a unanimous Council committee decision. The technical design was detailed to achieve the Passivhaus standard performance and I have been supporting the client to oversee the construction, and for much of it to actually build it themselves. Construction is now almost complete.
