Rose Valley, Norwich

This design developed four new dwellings on two separate sites stranded awkwardly between the backs of a set of main road-shops and a run of terraced cottages. The scheme evolved out of a response to both the site and the houses’ context, with the buildings’ soft red bricks deliberately echoing the adjacent Victorian properties, and their ‘screened’ outer walls creating some protected private outdoor spaces that both engage with the public realm while providing much-needed passive surveillance, to help protect the area.
