Design for a mixed-use development with 50 homes, on the edge of Poringland, looking at how to design a development that connects to the open landscape beyond, as opposed to closing off from it, as typical cul-de-sacs tend to do.
The key was the road layout and positioning of the public open space, giving the design a strong character. The houses are now nearly all completed, and whilst details of the design have been altered, that sense of connection has come through demonstrating the importance of having a clear 'vision' at the outset.
